Lead times from order to delivery

UK sauna lead times split into three cabin classes: stocked cabins held at UK depots, made-to-order units built to specification at the workshop, and custom traditional builds shipped from European workshops. Each has a different lead-time profile and a different peak-period adjustment.

Made-to-order and outdoor units

Made-to-order infrared cabins and most outdoor units are built to specification at the workshop and shipped via container or kerbside freight to the UK depot. The 4–10 week window covers production, freight, and depot handling. Outdoor barrel and cube saunas typically sit at the longer end of the window because of the larger crate footprint and lower freight frequency. Confirmed production start dates are issued at the point of order; delivery slot booking happens at depot arrival.

Custom and traditional builds

Custom traditional Finnish cabins — bespoke sizing, alternative timbers, integrated changing rooms — are workshop-built in Finland or the Baltic states and ship on 8–12 week lead times. Pre-delivery checklist

A pre-delivery check carried out 5–7 days before the scheduled delivery prevents the majority of avoidable snags recorded in the Telos install logs (S019). The checklist below is the standard pre-delivery sequence.

Doorway width and hallway clearance

The largest single Telos cabin panel is 0.78 m wide; the minimum doorway width for room-of-choice delivery is therefore 0.78 m. The minimum hallway turning radius for routing the panel into a back-of-house room is 1.0 m. A hallway tighter than 1.0 m may require panel rotation or kerbside delivery only. Door frame architraves, stair lift rails, and door stops can reduce effective clearance and should be measured at the narrowest point.

Floor protection and base condition

The floor immediately beneath the cabin must be waterproof and structurally sound. Acceptable finishes include sealed vinyl, sealed tile, marine ply with a water-resistant seal, or rubberised matting. Carpet must be lifted before delivery. Loft installs benefit from a load-spread board where joist centres do not align with the cabin footprint. A 2-person infrared cabin weighs 120–200 kg distributed over a 1.5 m² footprint.

Electrical circuit pre-pull

Where the cabin requires a new dedicated circuit (16A or 32A typical), pulling the circuit before the cabin arrives reduces install time and allows commissioning on the delivery day. The registered electrician completes the consumer-unit-end work in advance and terminates the cable at the cabin location with a fused isolator. Final connection to the cabin happens after assembly. Approved Document P certification is issued once the cabin is energised.

Delivery day — what happens

Delivery options for UK home saunas are typically kerbside, threshold, or room-of-choice. The option chosen at order determines the crew size, the equipment, and the access requirements on the day.

Kerbside vs threshold vs room-of-choice delivery

Kerbside delivery places the cabin at the property boundary — typically on the pavement adjacent to the house. The customer is responsible for moving the cabin to the install location. Threshold delivery places the cabin at the front door. Room-of-choice delivery places the cabin in the room where it will be installed; the crew route the panels through the property using the doorway and hallway clearances confirmed at the pre-delivery stage. Room-of-choice delivery requires the 0.78 m doorway and 1.0 m hallway turn confirmed in advance.

Two-person lift requirement

Individual cabin panels above 25 kg trigger a two-person lift under HSE Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 guidance. All Telos deliveries are scheduled with a two-person crew where the heaviest panel exceeds this threshold. Where the install location is up more than one flight of stairs, additional crew may be scheduled; this is confirmed at the pre-delivery survey for upstairs installs.

Assembly times by sauna type

Assembly time depends primarily on cabin construction: prebuilt panel cabins assemble fastest, kit cabins require carpentry tools and time, and outdoor units split between factory-built (fast) and on-site-build (slow).

Kit-assembled Finnish cabin

A kit Finnish cabin consists of tongue-and-groove timber panels, internal benches, a stove or electric heater, and trim. Assembly proceeds from base frame through wall panels, bench supports, ceiling, and finishing. Two adults with carpentry tools typically complete assembly in 6–14 hours. The heater install is a separate trade — the registered electrician completes the consumer-unit-to-heater connection under Approved Document P (S016) and BS 7671 (S017).

Outdoor barrel or cube

Outdoor barrel saunas ship as staves, end-rings, banding, and a roof kit. Assembly is faster than a kit Finnish cabin — typically 4–8 hours — and requires a flat base (concrete pad or compacted gravel and slabs). Outdoor cube saunas ship factory-built where the dimensions allow, with on-site work limited to commissioning and electrical connection. Factory-built cubes require a heavy-haulage delivery and crane offload.

Electrical certification (Approved Document P)

Electrical compliance for a UK home sauna is governed by Approved Document P (S016) and BS 7671 (S017). The certification path is independent of the cabin assembly and must be carried out by a registered electrician through a competent person scheme.

Notifiable work and the registered electrician

A registered electrician is required where the sauna installation creates a new electrical circuit. Any new circuit installed in a dwelling is notifiable work under Approved Document P (S016) of the UK Building Regulations and must be certified through a competent person scheme (NICEIC, NAPIT or equivalent) or via Local Authority Building Control. Earth bonding and RCD

BS 7671 requires residual current device (RCD) protection on the circuit feeding the sauna. Wood-moisture stabilisation

Cabin timber arrives kiln-dried but absorbs ambient moisture during transit and storage. The first three heating cycles drive residual moisture from the timber and complete the dimensional stabilisation. Minor creaking during the second and third cycles is normal as the timber settles. Cabin door seals may need a single quarter-turn adjustment after the first week of use.

First-week usage protocol

The recommended first-week protocol is:

  1. Day 1. First fire — 60–90 minutes at maximum temperature, room window open, cabin door slightly ajar. No users in the cabin.
  2. Day 2. 30 minutes at recommended temperature, cabin door closed, no users.
  3. Day 3. First user session — 15 minutes at the user's preferred temperature.
  4. Days 4–7. Normal use, increasing session duration to the user's target.

Most common install snags (Telos S019 data)

The Telos install logs record a 9% post-delivery snag rate across 2023–2026 installs (S019). The top five snag categories are listed below. Each is largely avoidable with the pre-delivery checklist.

  1. Under-rated circuit. Cabin specified above the existing socket rating. Remediation: pull a new 16A or 32A circuit.
  2. Missing inlet vent. Indoor cabin installed without external venting in the host room. Remediation: install ducted extractor to external wall.
  3. Panel warp from customer-side storage. Cabin panels stored outdoors or in damp space between delivery and assembly. Remediation: cabin claim against delivery condition; replacement panel where covered.
  4. Missed door-swing clearance. Cabin door clashes with host-room furniture. Remediation: relocate cabin or reverse door swing where supported.
  5. Missing waterproof base. Cabin installed directly on carpet or untreated timber. Remediation: lift cabin, install vinyl or sealed tile, reassemble.

After-install — warranty registration and certificates

After install, three records should be filed with the homeowner's property and insurance documents:

  • The Part P certificate issued by the registered electrician (S016).
  • The cabin warranty registration confirmation (issued by Telos at registration).
  • Photographs of the install location, the cabin from at least three angles, and the consumer unit showing the new circuit breaker.
