Sauna blankets, in plain language.

A sauna blanket is a multi-layer fabric envelope with carbon-fibre infrared heating elements running through the inner shell. You lie inside it on a yoga mat or a bed, with your head out of the top, and a digital controller sets the internal temperature anywhere between 35°C and 80°C. The blanket reaches its working range in around ten to fifteen minutes; a typical session runs thirty to forty-five minutes.

The case for a blanket is space and price. A folded blanket fits a wardrobe shelf, runs from a 13A plug, and costs significantly less than a fixed cabin. The case against is posture: lying flat is a different physical experience from sitting upright in a wooden cabin, more akin to a long bath than a session at a Finnish spa. Most owners are content with the trade.

The variables that matter when comparing blankets are heater layout (look for full-circumference coverage, not just a back panel), EMF level at the user's torso, the inner liner material (medical-grade non-toxic interior, easily wiped clean), and the maximum temperature the controller will hold steady. A well-made blanket lasts five to seven years of regular use; a thin one fails at the seams inside two.

FAQ · Sauna Blankets

Asked & answered.

The questions we get most about sauna blankets. Anything missing, the phone is the quickest way through.

What do I wear inside a sauna blanket?

Most owners wear a long-sleeved cotton top and full-length cotton trousers — the layer keeps the inner liner clean and absorbs sweat. Some prefer a lightweight base layer. Going in directly against the inner liner shortens the blanket's life because cleaning the liner thoroughly between uses becomes harder.

How is a blanket different from a cabin sauna?

A blanket warms your body directly through full skin contact, lying flat. A cabin warms a heated air-and-wood envelope around you, sitting upright. The body's sweat response is similar; the experience is markedly different. Many owners use a blanket as their daily option and visit a public spa for the cabin experience occasionally.

Is it safe for daily use?

For most adults, yes — the same general guidance as any heat exposure applies: stay hydrated, do not use after alcohol, and keep sessions reasonable. If you are pregnant, taking medication that affects thermoregulation, or have a cardiovascular condition, speak to your GP first. Sessions of forty-five minutes at 70°C are routine for daily users.

How do I clean it?

Wipe the inner liner with a damp microfibre cloth and a small amount of mild detergent after each session, then air-dry with the blanket open. Never machine-wash the blanket itself. A removable inner liner sleeve simplifies hygiene further and is worth the upgrade if your blanket offers it.

How big is a folded blanket?

Roughly the size of a folded duvet — 60 × 50 × 20 cm — and around four to five kilograms. Most owners store theirs in a wardrobe or under the bed. The controller and cable detach for storage on better units.
